Jake Wightman will not defend his 1500m world title

The Scottish runner suffered a stress fracture earlier this year, preventing him from making a comeback for the British nationals and subsequently ruling him out of qualifying for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest this August. It’s worth noting that Wightman created a major upset during last year’s Oregon World Championship by securing the 1500m gold, outpacing the Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Unfortunately, Wightman’s recovery will extend until the end of the season, but he remains determined to make a triumphant return for the Paris Olympics.
