In a recent development, Olympic Council of Asia decided that up to 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus will have the opportunity to participate in the rescheduled Asian Games in Hangzhou. While these athletes will be able to compete for qualifying spots for the Paris Olympics, they will not be eligible to receive medals if they secure a top-three position in the Asian Games. As for the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the Paris 2024 Olympics, the decision lies with the governing bodies of each of the 31 sports on the event’s program.
